For over 35 years, the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Systems and Design Technology in Berlin has stood for excellence in production science. We are dedicated to bridging the gap between science and practice in the field of industrial production and offer application-oriented system solutions for the entire spectrum of industrial tasks – from product development to the production process, maintenance of capital goods, and recycling of products to the design and management of factory operations. In the Manufacturing Technologies department, we work on the development, provision, and adaptation of production and manufacturing technologies for the manufacture of innovative products. We develop new machines and machining strategies on behalf of our customers, optimize existing production facilities, and implement future-oriented tool concepts. Our core competencies include machining technology, precision machining, cleaning and blasting processes, additive manufacturing, and production and machine measurement technology. What you will do During your thesis, you will familiarize yourself with the topic of “cold gas spraying of metal matrix composite materials.” Your tasks will include: Independent planning and execution of analyses of tests to evaluate the coating quality of cold gas-sprayed materials Measuring and analyzing coating adhesion and failure mechanisms will also be part of your tasks Force measurements and acoustic emission measurements Analysis, interpretation, and preparation of the results What you bring to the table Studies in mechanical engineering, production engineering, design engineering, physical engineering, materials science, or a related field You are motivated to familiarize yourself with challenging topics and independently develop solutions to potential problems Working independently and conscientiously is important to you Advanced knowledge in the fields of production engineering, measurement technology, and materials science Confident use of MS Office programs Confident written and spoken German or English skills What you can expect Practical experience in analyzing and visualizing process data from an industrial manufacturing plant in the field of additive manufacturing A great team and an open, collegial working environment Insight into modern technologies and innovative manufacturing processes Collaboration with industrial partners Flexible scheduling for your thesis Opportunity to incorporate your own ideas into your work The thesis can be supervised at TU Berlin or carried out in cooperation with other universities.
