We deliver the graphene solution The RoleBlack Semiconductor is seeking a Photonic Component Designer(f/m/d) to create broadband passive devices that enable high-performance I/O coupling and polarization management as well as high-speed active components. In this role, you will design, simulate, and optimize fabrication-tolerant devices, develop test structures, and deliver PDK-ready building blocks while applying best practices in design-for-test and design-for-functionalityTo join our team, you should be excited toDesign and benchmark passive for I/O coupling and polarization management as well as active componentsPerform fabrication tolerant design optimizationDevelop test structures and apply design-for-test (DFT) methodsCarry out component and circuit layoutingDeliver PDK ready components Apply design-for-functionality (DFF) best practicesYour QualificationsM.S. or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, Optical Engineering, or a related fieldExpertise in integrated photonics device physics and modeling Proven skills in design, simulation, verification, and optimization of fabrication-tolerant, low-loss, and broadband passive components (ideally grating couplers, edge couplers, and polarization management devicesExperience in design, simulation, verification, and optimization of active componentsBackground in integrated photonics platforms (ideally SiN)Proficiency with Lumerical tools (Mode, FDTD, Multiphysics)Programming skills in Python and familiarity with GitExperience with layout tools (gdsfactory, Nazca, OptoDesigner)Hands-on experience in test structure development and design for testing (DFT)Knowledge of optical link simulation is nice to havePhotonic lab characterization experience is nice to haveUnderstanding of design for manufacturability (DFM) is a plusExperience with PDK building block development (compact model creation, p-cells, etc.) is nice to haveOur work culturePeople Over Processes. At Black Semiconductor, flexibility is key—we ensure work adapts to life, not the other way around.
