As from now | Full-time (40h) | Hybrid working model | in Garching (near Munich)We are looking for an experienced and proactive System Administrator to oversee IT services for a renowned international research organization based in Garching near Munich. In this key role, you will ensure excellent service delivery, foster stakeholder satisfaction, and drive continuous improvement in a dynamic and international environment. If you're ready to make an impact and contribute to world-class scientific research through outstanding IT services— then join our teamCandidate profileEducation: Completed university degree in computer science or a comparable field of study; at least 3 years of experience as a System Administrator or in a similar role within the IT services industry. Know- how: solid professional knowledge of operating systems: Windows, Linux (Red Hat, Ubuntu, CentOS) and virtualization technologies: VMware, Hyper-V; Proficiency in scripting and automation using PowerShell and Bash; Experience with automated configuration management tools: Ansible, Puppet.

The following certifications are a plus: ITIL Foundation, VMware Certified Professional - Data Center Virtualization (VCP-DCV), Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE), Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA). Working style: Hands-on mentality, analytical, structured and solution-oriented mindset with a strong sense of responsibility. Languages: Business fluent English (min. B2) and Germans skills are a plus.

Your responsibilitiesInstallation, configuration, and maintenance of Linux servers (physical, virtual). DNS, NAS, SAN Infrastructure maintenance and administration. Maintain and administer web application servers and services (Apache, Nginx, Tomcat). Maintain and administer the VMware infrastructure and monitoring application (Icinga, Grafana and Prometheus, etc.).

Managing backup and recovery processes across all servers. Managing user and system accounts. Monitoring of system performance, identifying bottlenecks, and optimising performance. Diagnosing and repairing faults, removing errors in systems.

Root cause analysis and incident management for “Server and Infrastructure” related incidents. Participate in 2nd + 3rd line support teams for “Server and Infrastructure” related activities. Creating scripts and automating repetitive processes. Executing routine tasks and controlling activities.

Identifying and applying security patches and bug fixes. Reacting to alarms and cybersecurity incidents.
