We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join our dynamic team, owning the data logic and processing pipeline, the ontology with its knowledge graph. If you are passionate about using data to drive strategic decision-making and thrive in a fast-paced, nerdy environment, we would love to hear from youResponsibilities Solve complex data flow and dependency problems, enabling transparent, versioned, and auditable computations Develop and maintain metadata and lineage models that support semantic graphs and numerical pipelines Model graphs and ontologies to capture complex relationships and build structures that translate abstract domains into clear data models Implement scalable processing pipelines for time-, resource-, and cost-based data across distributed systems Ensure the integrity, quality, and accessibility of data across various systems and platforms Work closely with the customer and the founders to identify the highest-ranking product opportunities for leveraging data in decision-making processes Stay current with industry trends in data engineering and language models Requirements 5+ years of experience building distributed data systems (e.g., Spark, dbt) Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred Proven experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar role, with a strong portfolio of data architecture projects Proficiency in programming languages such as Python Expertise in SQL and experience with various database technologies (e.g., PostgreSQL) Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts and experience with data storage solutions Experience with graph databases and ontology modeling Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and associated data services Excellent analytical skills and a proactive problem-solving mindset, with the ability to own topics You must speak English at level C1 or higher You must speak German at level C1 or higher You already live or are willing to relocate to Cologne, Germany BenefitsWe are an early-stage organisation that values speed of development without cutting corners on core product quality.
