Academic Success Advisor

Your Responsibilities We are looking for a new colleague to join our Student Success Team in Berlin on a full-time basis /40 hour a week starting as soon as possible, who shares our vision of excellence in education and who is committed to making a difference in the lives of our students and staff. The opportunity: The purpose of the UE Student Success Centre is to improve student retention, satisfaction and academic success by providing resources, training, workshops, services, and one-on-one support. The Centre supports students in pursuing academic success using a holistic approach to the student learning experience. The Centre comprises a team of academic and learning professionals and a range of learning support programs, such as, the academic readiness micro-credential for all new students, ongoing competency-based workshops for continuing students, and one-on-one student support. The aim is to support students to develop their ability to learn & study independently and impact the attainment, achievement, and progress of all students.Key Activities & Responsibilities:Support student retention initiatives such as identifying and monitoring students at risk of non-progression or withdrawal using academic performance indicators, and engagement trendsDevelop and implement Academic Improvement Plans (AIPs) in collaboration with students, service center and academics, ensuring measurable goals, structured follow-up, and clear accountabilityInitiate and maintain proactive communication with retention-risk students to encourage engagement, persistence, and timely use of support servicesCurate and coordinate a program of study and learning strategy workshops that complement existing academic writing and research support. Ensure offerings are responsive to emerging student needs and integrated within the wider Student Success Centre frameworkDeliver individualized student support through scheduled appointments, helping students build confidence and develop effective study skills such as organization, planning, problem-solving, and time management. Deliver guidance in line with best practices to foster academic learning strategies that encourage self-reflection, self-management, regulation, and independence. Address student inquiries and requests for help with academic skills as they arise, making appropriate use of a range of holistic approaches and referralsManage and further develop the existing communication plan for the Student Success Centre activities and resources, ensuring it is kept current through regular updatesMaintain and enhance digital learning and information resources that support student progression, ensuring accessibility and alignment with institutional platforms and communication standardsOversee communication across various channels (internal and external, including social media), ensuring alignment with institutional goals and visibility of support services.Providing case-specific psycho-social support regarding integration and personal and academic development in GermanyCoordinate, plan, and administer the Health and Wellbeing Micro-credential for students each semester (maintain attendance records and reports on general engagement & participation), and ensure recognition through badging and certificates for the successful attainment of competencies taughtSkills and Abilities:  We want you to help shape support systems that enable students from diverse backgrounds to realize their potential We require excellent skills and best practices for research, academic integrity, critical thinking, problem-solving, stress management, testing strategies, online learning strategies & skill development strategies, etcYou will be able to provide engaging and effective learning skills workshops and other interventions to improve student engagementYou will be able to identify barriers to overall student learning experiences and work with key members of the team to help improve student experienceDemonstrated commitment & ability to improve educational achievement for studentsAbility to establish and maintain interpersonal relationships with studentsAbility to process/analyse information and effectively communicate it to studentsStrong motivation for delivering empathic, compassionate, consistent, accurate, developmental, student-focused, appreciative, and honest advisingStrong customer service orientation with a desire to help students succeed in reaching their goalsStrong written, verbal, presentation and communication skills, including the ability to engage in public speaking with large audiences (e.g., during orientation) as well as in small groups or larger workshopsExcellent knowledge of designing and facilitating engaging and participatory workshops to groups of students with a range of levelsExperience and expertise in adult learning principles with extensive knowledge of evidence- based, theory-informed university-level academic skills strategies (e.g. reading, note-taking, memorization, time management, learning strategies)Your profileMaster’s degree requiredAcademic skills and student support in higher education or a similar environment such as schools/colleges or companiesTeaching methods and strategies appropriate for higher education and students with different modes of study from a diverse range of educational backgrounds and agesSupporting students/adults with disabilities/health conditions preferably within an educational contextGood knowledge of equity, diversity, and inclusion principles and legislative requirements including confidentiality and data protectionExperience supporting the academic success of students with diverse learning needs through tailored advising and guidance, preferably in a higher education contextHigh level of communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, including 1:1 and group workExperience in generating and implementing innovative ideas and approaches to supporting studentsSome experience in supporting students in at least one student need category: mental health, disabilities, learning differences, and cultural backgroundsWhy us?Opportunity to work with a great team in a dynamic and international environment30 days of vacation /5 working days per week  After successfully passing the probationary period, we offer subsidies for employees’ well-being through our health budget with preventive and aftercare servicesVarious online language courses and opportunities to participate in online collaboration coursesNumerous campus events from the fields of art, culture, business and scienceOpportunity to develop and implement new ideas and conceptAbout usThe University of Europe for Applied Sciences (UE) is a vibrant and dynamic institution that is dedicated to providing top-quality education to students from all around the world.
