We are seeking a highly skilled Postdoctoral Researcher to join our team at Forschungszentrum Jülich. As a key member of our research group, you will be responsible for analyzing RNAseq data to identify and functionally annotate genes involved in cell wall degradation and carbon flux. You will also screen metagenomic and genomic data using deep learning methods to identify degrading enzymes from various data resources.
Additionally, you will use Hidden Markov Models and machine learning techniques to identify novel and better enzyme variants from a large proteome compendium. You will generate structural models of enzymes and use machine learning methods to predict their enzymatic function and characterize their molecular recognition properties.
Furthermore, you will use machine learning methods and simulation techniques to understand environmental effects on the enzymes and improve their stability and activity. You will publish your scientific results in international journals and travel to national and international conferences. You will also co-supervise PhD students.
Your Profile:We are looking for a highly qualified candidate with a university degree (Master) and doctorate in bioinformatics, computer science, data science, biophysics, or life science-related fields. You should have a proven track record in bioinformatics, biophysics, data analysis, and simulation sciences.
You should have very good practical experience in molecular biology, Next Generation Sequencing, and structural biology. You should also have extensive experience in analyzing large datasets, especially genomics, transcriptomics, metagenomics, enzyme data, and structural data.
You should have experience with the application of machine learning methods for data analysis and interpretation. You should also have knowledge in programming languages (Java, Rust, C/C++, Python) and statistical analysis using R/BioConductor/python.
You should have proven scientific communication skills in the form of scientific publications or equivalent. You should also be willing to complement and collaborate with existing research units at the research center.
Excellent English language skills, both written and spoken, are a requirement due to the international nature of the institute and collaborations.
