About the Role

Munich Re's Natural Resources Fac team is seeking an experienced underwriter to join our Munich office. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for underwriting worldwide clients active in the onshore downstream energy oil & gas, petrochemical, and chemical business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Underwrite global facultative onshore energy business in accordance with our strategy, including ESG aspects, and within designated underwriting authority.
  • Analyze risk inspections and price and accept large and complex energy risks.
  • Control accumulation risks, including natural hazards, and ensure compliance with group-wide guidelines.
  • Negotiate with cedents and reinsurance brokers and develop, maintain, and expand client and broker relationships.
  • Assist in the implementation of portfolio analysis and compile statistics and reports.

Requirements

  • University degree, preferably in engineering or an applied science-related discipline, or a recognized professional qualification in insurance.
  • Experience as an underwriter in direct and/or facultative insurance or practical experience as an engineer.
  • Basic knowledge of risk assessment and pricing methods, as well as competencies in the analysis of wordings/contracts.
  • Competencies to quickly learn other occupancies and follow up on new or developing technologies.
  • Strong negotiation skills and experience negotiating terms and conditions with clients and brokers.
  • Strong sales orientation with the ability to build sustainable relationships with clients and brokers.
  • High degree of responsibility, motivation, decisiveness, and self-employment.
  • Excellent social skills, ability to coordinate and work with an international team.
  • Analytical skills, capability to be innovative and creative.
  • Solution-oriented with a focused, proactive, and efficient work style.
  • Fluent business English is essential.
