Patent Attorney

Global Patent Portfolio Management

We are seeking a patent attorney to manage a global patent portfolio for plastic additives in our Performance Chemicals division. The ideal candidate will have experience in patent law, chemistry, and/or biochemistry, as well as excellent communication skills in English.

Responsibilities

• Align advice with business strategy and acquire in-depth knowledge of division technologies, strategies, and goals.
• Analyze BASF research and development results for protectability and value of achievable protection.
• Secure industrial property rights and examine third-party intellectual property rights for scope of protection and impact on BASF products and processes.
• Advise internal clients on using industrial property rights to protect strategic business interests.

Qualifications

• Completed studies in a scientific or scientific-technical degree program and training as a European Patent Attorney and/or patent assessor/patent attorney.
• Several years of practical professional experience in a patent department of an industrial company, patent law firm, or patent office.
• Scientific and/or patent law experience in chemistry or biochemistry, ideally including drafting and negotiation of IP contracts and knowledge of licensing and contract law.
• Interest in digital technologies and applications, as well as convincing and business-fluent communication in English, with good knowledge of German an advantage.
