At Microchip Technology, we're seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join our team as a Principal Engineer Applications. This role offers a unique opportunity to work on cutting-edge technology and be part of a dynamic team that's shaping the future of the industry.
The Applications group is responsible for delivering industry-leading communication semiconductors to support emerging vehicle systems and industrial automation architectures. As a Principal Engineer Applications, you will be part of this team and will be responsible for leading the Software Applications team in Karlsruhe and providing technical guidance to the team members in Chennai.
Your strong communication and writing skills will be essential in interfacing with various internal design, support, hardware, and marketing teams. You must be able to effectively communicate technical information to individuals with varying levels of expertise and use your technical knowledge to answer customers' questions.
This position offers a great opportunity to multiply your knowledge and experience through your team while receiving support from the organization. With your team, you will:
- Create early prototypes of future and market-leading wired networking products derived from customer input.
- Bring early FPGA prototypes to life in an application context.
- Create, release, and support firmware examples and drivers to support these products on our 8-, 16-, and 32-bit MCU/MPUs plus competitor products.
- Define and create demonstrators to showcase key differentiators of our products together with the marketing and hardware team and present those in public events.
Key job responsibilities/duties include:
- Develop and grow the potential in your team from all possible levels.
- Planning, distributing, and tracking of work packages.
- Collaborating between teams within the global organization to retrieve and provide necessary information.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A Master's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent field of study.
- 7+ years of experience in embedded firmware programming.
- First management experience.
You will be an excellent fit for this role if you have:
- Excellent motivational and leadership skills to drive distributed development teams.
- Practical experience with MCU architectures including PIC, dsPIC, and ARM.
- Very good C/C++ skills.
- Knowledge of vehicle communications systems including CAN, LIN, Ethernet.
- Strong project management skills.
- Strong spoken and written communication skills.
- Understanding of automotive embedded system performance and robustness needs.
- Knowledge of embedded software architecture and vehicle-related standards like AUTOSAR.
