Job Description

Role Summary:

This role is designed for an accomplished scientist to lead a team of medicinal chemists within the Global Medicinal Chemistry organization. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a diverse team of scientists who design and synthesize drug candidates for novel targets throughout AbbVie's drug discovery pipeline.

  • Develop and execute strategic plans to advance projects in drug discovery.
  • Lead internal and external teams to design and synthesize low-dose drug candidates.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address risks and drive towards candidate nomination.
  • Promote professional development of team members through mentoring, guidance, and supervision.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain a high level of productivity in the laboratory setting.
  • Present program updates and research strategies to functional and non-functional leaders.
  • Maintain awareness of emerging literature and science in the field.
  • AUTHOR scientific disclosures/publications.

Qualifications:

  • PhD in organic or medicinal chemistry with typically 6+ years of experience in the biotech/pharma industry.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in modern medicinal chemistry, preferably in protein degradation and CNS-drug development.
  • Proven track record of productivity in the laboratory setting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, critical evaluation, and data-driven decision-making.
