Job Opportunity:

We are seeking a highly motivated Master's student to join our team at Airbus Defence and Space in Friedrichshafen, Germany. As a Master's student, you will have the opportunity to work on a thesis project within the field of femtosecond frequency metrology for space applications.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, assembly, and testing of a f-2f interferometer setup, including femtosecond pulse compression, amplification, and beat detection.
  • Optimization of optical interfaces for signal-to-noise ratio, electrical, and thermo-mechanical stability.
  • Design, assembly, and testing of interface electronics on PCB prototypes for analogue and digital electronics.
  • Investigation and characterization of optical beat note signals and closed-loop optical performance.
  • Collaboration with an interdisciplinary team to develop novel techniques and methodologies.
  • Data analysis, numerical simulations, and statistical modeling to interpret experimental results.
Requirements:
  • Enrolled in a Master's degree program in physics, optics, photonics, or related fields.
  • Practical experience in handling and developing optical setups, including single-mode fibers, optical gratings, laser diodes, and nonlinear frequency doubling or mixing.
  • Practical programming skills with MATLAB or Python.
  • Geometrical optics and/or nonlinear optics background for analytical evaluations and optimization.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and propose innovative solutions.
