About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled student research assistant to join our team at the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute. As a leading research institution, we deliver innovations for the digital society of the future and have become a world leader in the field of data transmission.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct research and simulations on wireless communication systems using MATLAB and Python.
  • Analyze and characterize point-to-multipoint architectures for FTTR and perform simulations on various functional split points in the Wi-Fi protocol.
  • Develop and implement algorithms for signal processing and wireless link performance.
  • Provide documentation of simulation results and contribute to publications and reports.

Requirements

  • Full-time student at a German university preferably in the field of electrical engineering, computer engineering, communications engineering or physics with good to very good grades.
  • Good understanding of Wi-Fi communication systems and protocols.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB and Python, with a focus on Wi-Fi related toolboxes.
  • Familiarity with PHY and MAC layers of passive optical networks (PON).
  • Desirable is interest in simulating fiber optics communication with VPI photonics software.
  • Proactivity and interest in scientific work.
  • Good communication skills (German/English) and team spirit.
