Researcher Position in Public Economics

The Max Planck Institute for Tax Law and Public Finance is seeking a highly qualified researcher to join its Department of Public Economics. The successful candidate will contribute to the institute's research agenda in the area of public economics and the political economy of governance.

The researcher will engage in thematic research on the geoeconomic conflict and competition between the U.S. and China, focusing on trade policy, tax policy, and industrial policy. This research will employ game-theoretic, empirical, and experimental tools from economics and political science.

The institute offers a dynamic and international research environment, with access to excellent research infrastructure, a strong team of researchers, and the financial and institutional resources to conduct laboratory and internet-based experiments. The researcher will have the opportunity to collaborate with the department of economics at the University of Munich.

Requirements
  • PhD in economics or political science, with a focus on applied game theory, international public economics, or political economy
  • Excellent knowledge of game-theoretic, empirical, and experimental tools from economics and political science
  • Experience in designing, programming, and evaluating laboratory-based or internet-based experiments
  • Fluency in written and spoken English, with command of the German language an advantage
What We Offer

The position offers the opportunity to qualify for positions with higher seniority at universities and research institutions through scientific work and publishing. The position is limited to two years, with remuneration based on qualifications and professional experience according to the Collective Agreement for the Public Service (TVöD Bund). In addition, social benefits are granted according to the regulations for the public service (Bund).
