Senior Legal Counsel

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Legal Counsel to join our Central Legal Department. The ideal candidate will have expertise in financial regulation, specifically in Payments Law (PSD2 and EMD2 Directives).
The FinTech Legal team is responsible for providing legal guidance on the development and implementation of financial products, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations across multiple markets and regions. The team also assesses legal risks associated with commercial transactions and partnerships, and works closely with cross-functional teams to navigate regulatory frameworks and support strategic initiatives in the fintech space.
- You will support our FinTech Legal Team in Berlin, a team of international lawyers responsible for all legal matters pertaining to Delivery Hero's growing FinTech business.
- In cooperation with legal teams in our regions and markets, you will support Delivery Hero's global FinTech initiatives from a legal perspective and conduct complex legal assessments pertaining to individual projects in the areas of FinTech, payments, and financial services.
- You will provide product counselling to FinTech initiatives to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations as well as internal Delivery Hero standards.
- You will help negotiate partnerships with licensed institutions to ensure timely go-live of e-wallet, lending, or other FinTech products within the Delivery Hero ecosystem.
- You will use your expertise on financial regulation to prepare and supervise regulatory authorization projects in different markets worldwide.
- You will work closely with our product teams and Delivery Hero's management team to drive expansion in different jurisdictions, especially in the areas of FinTech, payments, and financial services.
- You will support the business sales and procurement functions of Delivery Hero with drafting and reviewing commercial agreements pertaining to our FinTech business.
- You will liaise with and coordinate external law firms worldwide, manage administrative proceedings and investigations, and act as a contact person for regulators in different markets worldwide.
Qualifications
- You have completed your legal studies and are admitted to practice law in your local jurisdiction.
- You have at least 5 years of experience in the in-house legal team of a bank, a FinTech firm, or the financial regulation practice of a reputable international law firm.
- You have significant expertise and demonstrable interest in financial regulation, specifically in Payments Law (PSD2 and EMD2 Directives).
- You have experience in leading legal projects or overseeing the work performed by other colleagues.
- You have great communication skills in English and are able to design presentations and convey complex legal concepts and arguments in simple words for an audience of non-lawyers.
- You are an absolute team player with excellent interpersonal skills and are enthusiastic about working on multinational matters and financial technology projects.
- You are based in Berlin or the northern part of Germany or are willing to relocate to the region as soon as practicable.
