Lead Battery Cell Engineer

Your Mission

In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing VÆRIDION's battery cell and cell technology selection, customisation, production, and characterisation. You will work closely with cell suppliers to push the industry to class-leading innovation through specifying technology and optimal cell design tailored to VÆRIDION's CS-23 all-electric aircraft.

Your Responsibilities
  • Monitor and assess cutting-edge battery cell technology, the global cell market, the global supplier landscape, and their roadmaps.
  • Develop VÆRIDION's cell technology roadmap w.r.t. energy and power requirements, safety, technological limits, etc.
  • Manage cell suppliers and coordinate cell design, production, supply chain, and procurement.
  • Instigate research and collaboration programmes to establish VÆRIDION as a preferred and pre-eminent partner for cell suppliers in certifying new cells and cell technology with aviation authorities.
  • Coordinate cell characterisation and performance validation, both in-house and with external partners.
  • Develop preliminary and high-fidelity battery cell simulation models.
  • Support aircraft operation improvements regarding optimised operation and ageing of the battery, including charging strategies.
  • Support the development, implementation, and validation of battery and energy management concepts.
  • Support collaborations with battery recycling partners for end-of-life handling.
  • Support battery design validation and verification according to CS-23, DO-160G, DO-311A.
Your Profile
  • PhD, MSc, or equivalent degree in electrical engineering, physics, chemistry, materials science, or a related field is required.
  • 5+ years of experience in Li-ion cell technology, materials, design, production, testing, and/or modelling - for cylindrical cells in particular.
  • An established network with cell manufacturers and researchers would be beneficial.
  • Strong motivation to help build structures and processes.
  • A high level of self-reliance with the ability to work in a team as well as autonomously.
  • A target-oriented, driven workstyle with analytic problem-solving skills is required.
  • Fluent English language skills are essential, and fluent German or other languages would be beneficial.
