Job Opportunity:

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) is seeking a seasoned Senior Underwriter to join the German Property team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in underwriting Energy property business, with a focus on Chemical Occupancies. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for developing and underwriting Energy property business and specifically Chemical property business across the territory.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop and underwrite new and renewal property submissions
  • Grow the chemical property book of business
  • Establish and develop broker and customer relationships
  • Analyze reports and make sound underwriting decisions
  • Review and approve policy terms and conditions
  • Work in a fast-paced environment and make quick decisions
  • Travel within territory

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • 10+ years commercial insurance experience with a focus on chemical accounts
  • Strong existing broker and client relationships
  • Strong underwriting acumen and attention to detail
  • Strong understanding of policy forms and broker manuscripts
  • Strong collaboration and team building skills
  • Strong communication skills, including negotiation and presentation experience
  • Willingness to travel
  • Sound academic track record, preferably in chemical engineering
  • Fluency in German and English
