Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Quantum Benchmark Engineer to join our team in Hamburg or Siegen. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for advancing the technical area of quantum characterization, verification, and validation (QCVV) for our trapped-ion quantum computers.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Contribute to our QCVV strategy and roadmap: Collaborate with our international team of physicists, hardware engineers, and software engineers to develop and implement a comprehensive QCVV strategy for our trapped-ion quantum computers.
  • Execute benchmarking routines and simulations: Design and execute benchmarking routines and simulations to evaluate the performance of our quantum computers and identify areas for improvement.
  • Quantum computer architectural analysis: Analyze the architectural components and features of our quantum computers, as well as performance estimation methodologies, to provide required information and performance assessments for benchmarks.
  • Collaboration with cross-functional teams: Work closely with our hardware, software, and quantum software teams to advance the development of quantum supremacy and fault-tolerance quantum computers.
  • Error mitigation and suppression: Collaborate with our R&D teams and research institutes to identify and implement error mitigation and suppression strategies for our quantum computers.
  • Staying up-to-date with industry advancements: Engage in literature reviews and participate in conferences to stay current with the latest developments in the field of quantum computing.
  • Industrial and academic collaborations: Engage in collaborations with industry partners and academic institutions to advance the development of quantum computing.
  • Performance reporting and insights: Generate reports and provide insights on performance and benchmark-related topics to internal and external stakeholders and our management team.
Requirements:
  • PostDoc or PhD in Theoretical or Experimental Physics, Mathematics, Engineering, or related fields: A strong background in quantum computing and quantum information is essential.
  • Strong theoretical understanding of standard quantum benchmarking techniques: A deep understanding of quantum benchmarking techniques is required.
  • Programming skills in Python or other high-level languages: Experience with programming languages such as Python is necessary.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills in English: Strong communication and writing skills are essential for effective collaboration and reporting.
  • Collaborative mindset and creativity: A creative and collaborative mindset is required to work effectively in a multicultural and interdisciplinary team.
  • Preferred qualifications: Experience with benchmarking and characterization of quantum computing machines, knowledge of atomic, molecular, and optical physics experiments, and a proven track record of scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals.
