Job Title: Principal Backend Engineer

Grafana Labs is seeking a highly skilled Principal Backend Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our engineering organization, you will be responsible for designing, building, and operating critical systems that power our observability platform.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive the development of our cloud-native observability platform, leveraging distributed systems and microservices architecture.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement scalable systems, ensuring high availability and performance.
  • Develop and maintain robust, clean, and performant software that is easily maintained by others.
  • Participate in on-call rotations and take ownership of the services you're running.
  • Mentor and support other team members, participating in design discussions and collaborating with the team.

Requirements:

  • Strong experience with at least one programming language, preferably Go.
  • Experience with delivering projects from gathering requirements to shipping a product to the customer's hands in a self-driven way.
  • Solid experience with developing software that runs in the cloud or some experience with systems engineering.
  • Experience with Kubernetes, microservices architecture, and distributed systems is a plus.

Nice to Have:

  • Experience working with Prometheus and Grafana in operational roles.
  • Exposure to infrastructure as code and being on-call.
