Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD student to join our team at the Helmholtz Institute Freiberg for Resource Technology (HIF). The successful candidate will be part of a project focused on developing innovative technologies for the circular economy, with a specific emphasis on the efficient use and recycling of metal-bearing raw materials.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop dynamic sampling strategies for field analytical devices with low environmental impact
  • Design and implement sampling strategies for surficial media, such as soil and plant materials, leveraging pre-existing information
  • Apply and further develop statistical methods for highly noisy geochemical data
  • Participate in fieldwork campaigns to acquire data and test sampling methods
  • Present research results at project meetings, international conferences, and in peer-reviewed journal publications
Requirements
  • Master's degree in statistics, geosciences, forestry, or agricultural sciences, or a related field
  • Strong background in geostatistics or willingness to learn
  • Experience in environmental or bio-geochemistry, knowledge of ore geology, portable analytical methods, and applied statistics is an advantage
  • Structured and solution-oriented working style, analytical thinking, and high commitment
  • Excellent communication skills in English; knowledge of Czech or German is a plus
