The Max Planck Institute for Neurobiology of Behaviour – caesar (MPINB) is a leading research institution in the field of neuroethology, dedicated to understanding the neural mechanisms underlying animal behavior. Our research group, Neural Circuits, is seeking a highly motivated Ph.D. researcher to investigate the dynamics of neural circuits in Drosophila melanogaster.

About the Project

We are looking for a talented scientist to work on a range of projects that investigate neural circuits underlying behavior, including learning and memory, sleep, and other related topics. Our lab uses advanced optical imaging and behavior techniques, including two-photon calcium imaging and optogenetics in behaving animals. We have developed novel methods for optical microscopy, imaging, and optogenetics, which can be applied to elucidate the computations of neural circuits in the brain.

Requirements
  • A master's degree in neuroscience, biophysics, physics, physical chemistry, engineering, or a related field
  • Good knowledge of programming languages for data analysis (Python, Matlab) and a strong interest in quantitative approaches for describing behavior and neural circuits
  • Interest in computational modeling for data analysis, analysis of large data sets, and modern methods for data analysis, such as machine learning
  • Interest in working with and understanding custom-built scientific instruments
