Quantum Metrology Specialist

At the Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt e.V. (DLR), we are looking for a Quantum Metrology Specialist to join our team in Ulm. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a pioneering role in quantum technology research and application fields.

We are seeking a highly skilled individual to design, implement, and characterize high-precision laser optical experiments. The successful candidate will work closely with our team to develop precision instruments for space applications based on quantum technologies.

• Design and implement quantum optical instruments, including optical clocks and laser interferometers.
• Characterize these setups and document the tests.
• Support our team in the implementation of an iodine-based frequency reference for use on the ISS.
• Work on the compactification/miniaturization of quantum optical clocks and support the further development with regard to commercial implementation.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

• A completed scientific university degree in natural sciences or engineering.
• Knowledge of CAD and FEM software, such as SOLIDWORKS or COMSOL.
• Experience in the development of optical metrology systems and ideally in optical technologies for space applications.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
