Financial Accountant

FRS – Fast Reliable Seaways is a leading provider of marine transportation services, operating a high-speed catamaran ferry between Seattle, WA and Victoria, BC. With a strong commitment to customer satisfaction and a passion for innovation, we are seeking an experienced General Ledger Accountant to join our accounting team.

Position Overview

As a General Ledger Accountant, you will play a critical role in maintaining the accuracy and integrity of our financial records. Your responsibilities will include recording transactions, reconciling accounts, and preparing financial reports. You will work closely with our accounting team to ensure the timely and accurate completion of financial tasks.

About the Successful Candidate

We are looking for a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual with a strong background in financial accounting. The ideal candidate will possess excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a team environment. You will have a strong understanding of financial principles and regulations, including US GAAP and SOX.

Job Duties

• Participate in monthly and year-end close activities and account reconciliations.
• Prepare journal entries in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
• Update and maintain balance sheet account reconciliations monthly.
• Collaborate with other departments to ensure all financial data is captured accurately.
• Ensure compliance with internal controls, policies, and procedures related to the accounting function.
• Support external and internal audits by providing necessary documentation and analysis.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or similar.
• CPA or actively pursuing CPA designation.
• Intermediate to advanced US GAAP knowledge and strong technical accounting skills required.
• Experience with accounting software (SAP, Dynamics, or similar systems).

Preferred Skills

• Problem-solving: a demonstrated ability to identify and resolve accounting misstatements, explain variances, and reconcile balances.
• Experience in maintaining working papers that support accurate/meaningful balance sheet account reconciliations, with multiple accounts in multiple currencies.
• PC proficiency: Strong Microsoft suite skills, with exceptional skills in Excel.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with cross-functional teams and senior management.
