**About the Position**

The Universität Potsdam, Institute of Physics and Astronomy invites applications for a Full Professorship in Earth System Dynamics to be filled as soon as possible. This joint professorship under the Jülich Model with the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) offers an exciting opportunity for an outstanding scientist to design, conduct, and lead innovative research that advances our understanding of Earth system dynamics.

**Job Description**

We are seeking a candidate with an international record of accomplishments in original research, substantial scientific publication activities, success in the procurement of competitive funding, and proven leadership qualities. The successful candidate will contribute to undergraduate teaching in physics as well as to MSc courses Climate Physics and Climate, Earth, Water, Sustainability (CLEWS) at the Universität Potsdam.

**Key Responsibilities**

• Design, conduct, and lead innovative research that advances our understanding of Earth system dynamics
• Contribute to undergraduate teaching in physics
• Participate in MSc courses Climate Physics and Climate, Earth, Water, Sustainability (CLEWS)
• Develop and apply coupled Earth system models to study feedbacks, non-linear interactions, and tipping points in the Earth system
• Foster cross-cutting and interdisciplinary collaboration within PIK on problems of planetary stewardship, including managing global commons and safeguarding planetary boundaries

**Required Qualifications**

We seek a candidate with excellent leadership qualities and a clear vision for contributing to the field of Earth system dynamics. The ideal candidate should have made substantial scientific contributions in one or more areas, such as ocean-atmosphere-cryosphere interactions, using advanced Earth system modeling. A strong interest in developing and applying coupled Earth system models is essential.

**Salary and Benefits**

The salary for this position is €105,000 per year, commensurate with experience. We offer a comprehensive benefits package, including dual career support and coaching for newly appointed professors.
