Job SummaryThe successful candidate will be responsible for developing simulation models of the Centrifugal Solar Particle Receiver (CentRec) and evaluating the results. This will involve using Discrete Element Method (DEM)-based open source simulation tools to investigate the effect of rough receiver wall on the bulk particle behavior. The candidate will also be responsible for creating a simplified CAD model of the receiver cavity and developing a post-processing routine in a relevant tool (Paraview, Matlab, or similar) to calculate the velocity field of particles in the receiver.
Key Responsibilities- Calibrate simulation model parameters and validate the model with experiment results
- Create a simplified CAD model of the receiver cavity in Autodesk Inventor based on laser measurements
- Run DEM simulations for various rough surface patterns
- Develop a post-processing routine in Paraview (or similar) and analyze the results
- Compare experimentally obtained data with simulation results
- Studies in mechanical engineering, energy engineering, process engineering, or similar
- Interest in dynamic simulations of particle systems
- Data analysis skills, e.g. Matlab, Python, Paraview, or similar
- Prior knowledge on Paraview and/or Discrete Element Method tools is a plus
- Analytical thinking ability
- Interest in solar thermal systems
- Good communication skills in English, especially in speaking and writing
