About the Job

We are seeking a highly motivated researcher to join our team at the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Solid State Physics IAF. As a researcher in quantum sensor technology, you will be working on the development of new magnetic field sensors based on the quantum mechanical system of nitrogen vacancy (NV) centers in diamond.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct research on laser-based magnetic field quantum sensors with NV centers in diamond
  • Characterize new metallic materials
  • Investigate microelectronic circuits using NV scanning probe magnetometry
  • Develop new measurement methods based on scanning probe magnetometry

Requirements

  • You are an enrolled student in the field of physics or a comparable discipline
  • Interest in challenging scientific content from experiment and theory
  • Interest in (ideally previous experience in) experimental laboratory work in optics/photonics, scanning probe microscopy (STM/AFM) or with NV centers
  • Good programming skills, ideally in Python
  • Good basics in the field of optics, lasers and quantum physics are helpful
  • Good written and spoken English
  • Enjoyment of scientific work
  • Ability to work in a team, openness and motivation to work independently, purposefully
