We are currently looking for a dedicated and skilled Technical Assistant to join the Personalized Immunotherapy division, led by Prof. Dr. Özlem Türeci, at HI-TRON Mainz.
Position OverviewThe Helmholtz Institute HI-TRON represents a partnership between the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) and the Research Institute for Translational Oncology at the University Medical Center of the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (TRON gGmbH). Our collaborative goal is to develop potent immunotherapies and discover new biomarkers for evaluating treatment efficacy.
Key Responsibilities- Manage daily laboratory operations and assist colleagues with various practical tasks, including:
- Cell culture: maintaining human and mouse cell lines as well as primary immune cells
- Molecular biology techniques: performing DNA and RNA isolation, cDNA synthesis, PCR, cloning, transfection, and transduction
- Conducting western blotting, ELISA, and various staining methods for immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry, and flow cytometry
- In vivo studies: monitoring animal subjects and aiding team members with animal experiments (e.g., inoculations, dissections, tissue sampling, and processing)
- Assist in the development, implementation, and refinement of new processes and methodologies
- Take charge of logistical and administrative responsibilities within the lab, including equipment upkeep, supply management, and documentation
- Qualified as a technical assistant (e.g., BTA) or biology laboratory technician
- Expertise in standard molecular and cellular biology techniques
- Experience in cultivating and modifying primary human and mammalian cells
- Knowledge of immune profiling through flow cytometry and/or microscopy techniques
- Prior experience with animal experimentation in immuno-oncology is advantageous
- Background in laboratory management
- Fluency in both German and English, written and spoken
- Highly organized with a structured approach to work and a problem-solving mindset
- Meticulous documentation of work activities
- Enthusiastic and eager to learn new skills
- Strong collaborative spirit, positive attitude, and creativity
- Willingness to mentor and support student projects
