Automated Systems Maintenance Technician - m/f/d
with a focus on diagnosing and enhancing control solutions for automated material handling systems, including conveyors, sorting mechanisms, scanners, cameras, scales, Human-Machine Interface (HMI) systems, and control cabinets. The primary objective is to establish and execute maintenance strategies that guarantee the reliability and compliance of such Material Handling Equipment (MHE) systems. This role also oversees vendor performance in line with contractual obligations and spearheads local initiatives aimed at enhancing maintenance solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
Engage in monitoring, diagnosing, and repairing our systems to ensure optimal system availability for on-site teams. Conduct weak point analyses, develop concepts, and implement measures to enhance conveyor and building technology processes. Focus on the continuous improvement of MHE system availability and provide internal training for the maintenance team. Demonstrate strong communication skills to convey complex issues across various business teams. Possess experience in resolving intricate challenges across Controls, Fieldbus, and IT Platforms. Have a working knowledge of Warehouse Control Systems and Telegrams. Understand Machine Safety Regulations and Safe Working Practices. Deliver both technical and non-technical system training to diverse business groups. Conduct structured reviews of contracts to identify necessary new or revised elements to meet operational, cost control, or legal requirements. Coordinate the implementation and approval of agreed contractual changes. With appropriate guidance, research supplier capabilities and evaluate viable alternatives for management consideration. Oversee cross-functional projects related to the installation, replacement, or upgrade of equipment as part of a lifecycle strategy, including reviewing new predictive maintenance methods with a Central Maintenance department. Manage supplier costs in accordance with contractual terms and FedEx policies. Perform structured checks to ensure all work is justified, verified, and approved prior to payment. Contribute to the budgeting process by providing insights regarding anticipated changes in maintenance contracts and advising on capital replacement needs to maintain expected MHE system reliability. Foster effective relationships with suppliers and hold regular meetings to assess service performance and compliance with contractual terms. Secure commitments for any necessary corrective actions or changes. Collaborate with local management to establish and prioritize maintenance solutions. Work alongside the Operations Technology team, control system specialists, and other maintenance experts with a focus on mechanical engineering to tackle interdisciplinary challenges and ensure seamless integration of mechanical and control systems.Basic Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or automation technology, or a comparable qualification such as a German master craftsman (Meister) in electrical engineering/automation technology. Ability to interpret technical documents and wiring diagrams. Experience with PLC-based production systems (preferably Allen Bradley and Siemens) including troubleshooting expertise. Familiarity with SCADA and HMI systems. Knowledge of CE Machinery Directive. Proficiency in German and a minimum of B2 level in English. Willingness to work shifts every four weeks between Monday and Saturday (starting at 4:30 PM), with other weeks scheduled in regular day shifts.Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in electrical engineering or automation technology. Experience in maintaining automated parcel sortation systems. Ability to assist in troubleshooting an IT architecture for production systems, including managed switches and Windows Servers. Familiarity with EPLAN, Microsoft Visio, and AutoCAD. Knowledge of Six Sigma, including data analysis and process improvement techniques. Project management experience.
