Heavy Equipment Inspector

We are seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Inspector to join our team at U.S. Army Europe and Africa. As a Heavy Equipment Inspector, you will be responsible for performing initial, in-process, and final inspections of heavy wheeled diesel, gasoline, electric, and multi-fuel powered commercial, military, and special purpose vehicles and equipment. Your duties will include inspecting the functioning and interaction of power and motion elements, electrical cooling, and suspension systems, instruments, and the condition of body and chassis. You will diagnose the extent of mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and material defects, determine the nature and extent of repair work, estimate costs for man-hours and material, and classify vehicles and equipment as to economically repairable or not economically repairable. You will also complete inspection sheets stating the type and extent of repair work, inspect the technical adequacy of completed repair work, make operational and final road tests, and certify roadworthiness of vehicles and record results. Additionally, you will prepare and sign inspection sheets and similar documents, perform mechanical safety inspections of privately owned vehicles belonging to Soldiers and Department of Army Civilians to determine roadworthiness, proper functioning of lights, brakes, steering, condition of tires and vehicle, etc., inform owners of deficiencies detected and explain repair work required, re-inspect vehicles that failed initial inspection after repairs and/or corrections have been made, certify application sheets and similar documents to meet regulatory requirements, plan and coordinate for the availability of material and equipment required to perform work, identify parts required for repair and services, account for material, time, and equipment used to accomplish repair, perform equipment inspection and complete inspection reports, and perform daily checks and inspections on shop equipment in use at BASOPS Maintenance Directorate to ensure safe and serviceable conditions. You will also solve findings on the spot and perform other duties as assigned.
RequirementsApplicants must have a valid German driver's license class B and a valid English language proficiency level B1. A driver's license class C is desired. Office automation skills are required. Language proficiency level B2 in German is also required. You can test yourself for free at one of the various online providers who offer tests under the 'Common European Framework of Reference for Languages' (CEFR).
Working ConditionsOccasional temporary duty travel is required.
