Job Description:

We are seeking a skilled HVAC educator to join our team at the Virginia Department of Corrections. As an HVAC instructor, you will be responsible for providing high-quality instruction in the assigned trade area, assisting students in completing required competencies, and demonstrating effective classroom or lab management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality instruction in HVAC trade area
  • Support students in completing required competencies
  • Demonstrate effective classroom or lab management
  • Ensure lab safety and compliance with all aspects of safety management
  • Maintain accurate and current student records

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • At least two years' full-time or 2000 hours of verifiable experience in the last 5 years in the relevant field/trade area for a teaching certificate
  • Eligibility for a Journeyman or Master Electrician License/Certification or Technical Professional License in Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning (HVAC) or Technical Professional License in the relevant trade area/field issued by Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR)
  • Eligibility for a teaching certificate by the Department of Education

Additional Considerations:

  • Experience in correctional education classroom management
  • Five years' experience in the related trade/field
  • Knowledge of all phases of the trade area
  • Ability to supervise adult inmates in a classroom/lab environment in a correctional facility
