Job Summary
Embl-Ebi is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to lead its science education and public engagement activities. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive outreach strategy, working closely with EMBL leadership and the scientific community.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and oversee the implementation of EMBL's science education and public engagement strategy
- Collaborate with EMBL leadership to integrate engagement objectives into strategic initiatives
- Lead the development of EMBL's interactive exhibition and visitor programme
- Develop and support outreach activities associated with EMBL research and services
- Coordinate relationships between SEPE, EMBL Training, Engagement and Communication activities, and the scientific community
- Develop and maintain external partnerships with organisations in the science and technology sector
- Promote and represent EMBL's science education and public engagement activities to internal and external stakeholders
- Conduct regular impact assessments to optimise and report on EMBL's science education and public engagement activities
- Lead and develop a team of public engagement and outreach professionals
- Manage the SEPE budget
- Lead applications for public grants and private donations to secure external funding for SEPE activities
Requirements
- A qualification relevant to science outreach and public engagement
- Relevant professional experience in the science education, science communication, and public engagement sector
- A good understanding of the formal and informal science education and engagement landscape in Europe and relevant trends in outreach and public engagement
- Experience in managing projects and programmes in the context of research, education, and training, strategic planning, and programme evaluation
- Proven leadership experience and strong people management skills
- A strong track-record in applying for public grants and private donations and in managing externally-funded projects in a European context
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and experience of using these to work effectively with others from different cultures, sectors, and career stages
- Fluency in English and good working knowledge of German
