Facilities Maintenance Specialist

Job Summary

FedEx is seeking a skilled Facilities Maintenance Specialist to join our team at the Cologne Bonn Airport. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for ensuring the reliability and compliance of automated material handling equipment, including conveyors, sortation systems, scanners, cameras, scales, Human-Machine Interface (HMI) systems, and control cabinets.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and repair systems to ensure high system availability for teams on site.
  • Conduct weak point analyses, develop concepts, and implement measures to optimize conveyor and building technology processes.
  • Work on continuous improvement of MHE system availability and conduct internal training for the maintenance team.
  • Communicate complex problems across business teams.
  • Solve complex issues across Controls, Fieldbus, and IT Platforms.
  • Have working knowledge of Warehouse Control Systems and Telegrams.
  • Knowledge of Machine Safety Regulations and Safe Working Practices.
  • Deliver technical and non-technical system training to different business groups.
  • Perform structured reviews of contracts to determine if new or revised elements are required to meet operational, cost reduction/control or legal requirements.
  • Coordinate the implementation and approval of agreed contractual changes.
  • Coordinate cross-functional projects relating to the installation, replacement, or upgrade of equipment as part of a lifecycle strategy.
  • Control supplier costs in accordance with contractual terms and conditions and FedEx policies and procedures.
  • Build effective relationships with suppliers and conduct regular meetings to review and service performance and compliance with the contractual terms.
  • Collaborate with Operations Technology team, control system specialist, and other maintenance specialists with focus on mechanical engineering to address interdisciplinary challenges and ensure seamless integration of mechanical and control systems.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or automation technology, or comparable qualification.
  • Ability to read and understand technical documents and wiring diagrams.
  • Experience with PLC-based production systems (Allen Bradley and Siemens preferred) including troubleshooting experience.
  • Experience with SCADA and HMI machines.
  • Familiar with CE Machinery Directive.
  • Fluent in German and minimum B2 in English.
  • Ability to work in a shift every four weeks between Monday and Saturday.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in electrical engineering or automation technology.
  • Experience with maintenance of automated parcel sortation systems.
  • Ability to support troubleshooting of an IT architecture for production systems that includes managed switches, Windows Servers, and how to remotely login.
  • Experience with EPLAN, Microsoft Visio, and AutoCAD.
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma that includes data analysis and process improvement techniques.
  • Project management experience.
  • Experience with the Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS) Maximo from IBM.
