Principal Data Scientist

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Data Scientist to join our team at Aignostics GmbH. As a key member of our data science team, you will play a crucial role in shaping the scientific and technical direction of our data science platform, projects, and products.
As a Principal Data Scientist, you will work closely with our collaborators in academia and industry to push the state of the art for digital pathology. Your expertise will be instrumental in driving scientific and technical excellence across all data science teams, ensuring we deliver high-quality, scalable solutions that transform complex biomedical data into actionable insights for cancer research and diagnostics.

We are looking for a talented individual with a strong background in data science, machine learning, and statistics. You should have a proven track record of driving technical and scientific excellence and innovation in organizations with 50+ scientists and engineers. Excellent communication skills, able to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, are essential.
Key responsibilities include owning the technical direction and scientific integrity of our data science platform, models, and algorithms, advising our CTO and VP of Data Science on the data science vision of Aignostics, and aligning our data science strategy with business objectives to provide a competitive advantage.

Requirements- Advanced degree in Data Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
- 8+ years of data science development experience, with at least 5 years in senior leadership roles
- Proven track record of driving technical and scientific excellence and innovation in organizations with 50+ scientists and engineers
- Excellent communication skills, able to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Extensive experience with machine learning and statistical concepts, including advanced topics such as self-supervised learning, foundation models, explainable AI (XAI), multimodal models, AutoML, or survival analysis
- Extensive background in large-scale deep learning models and systems, machine learning and data science design patterns, software architecture, and clean coding
- Extensive experience in designing and implementing large-scale, distributed machine learning models and systems
- Extensive expertise in multiple programming languages and frameworks
- Deep understanding of cloud technologies (GCP, AWS), containerization and orchestration (Kubernetes)
