Linux Cluster Optimization Specialist

About Your Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Linux Specialist to join our team at DESY. As a Linux Specialist for Sustainable Cluster Computing, you will play a key role in analyzing usage patterns of scientific compute and storage infrastructures, proposing and implementing optimizations to compute cluster scheduling systems, and defining relevant utilization observables and implementing their measurement.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Analyze usage patterns of scientific compute and storage infrastructures
  • Propose and implement optimizations to compute cluster scheduling systems
  • Define relevant utilization observables and implement their measurement
  • Coordinate with experts from DESY's particle physics and photon science experiments, and external partners
  • Participate in workshops and conferences related to the project

About You:
  • Hold a degree in computer science, physics, or a related field, or possess comparable knowledge
  • Experience with Linux-based computer networks
  • Familiarity with modern computer hardware and metrics collection
  • Basic understanding of computing clusters and scheduling mechanisms
  • Good command of English (spoken and written); basic knowledge of German is a plus
  • A team player who enjoys traveling and working in large international teams
