Our headquarters is situated in a renowned holiday destination, the five-lakes region in Upper Bavaria, near Munich. Our dedicated team of approximately 280 professionals collaborates daily in international and interdisciplinary environments to advance navigation technologies for the future.
YOUR MISSION:
We are seeking a motivated IT engineer or specialist to join our Level 1 IT team, which is essential to the success of our Galileo mission. You will play a crucial role in troubleshooting and maintaining the IT infrastructure that supports our sophisticated satellite ground control system, including customized server, switch, and firewall architectures. The ideal candidate will possess a strong desire for continuous learning, flexibility, and a hands-on approach to problem-solving. Strong organizational skills will complement your technical expertise.
In addition to solid technical knowledge, you should be adept at understanding complex issues, identifying patterns, processing information swiftly, and devising effective solutions. Adherence to strict security protocols and maintaining confidentiality and integrity are paramount.
Your responsibilities:
- Maintenance and administration of the IT infrastructure (Unix and Windows) for the 24/7 Galileo mission, including preventive maintenance and troubleshooting of technical issues.
- Management of user and root accounts across the systems.
- Installation and verification of new and replacement components within the Galileo Ground Segment.
- Development of maintenance protocols for Ground Control and Mission Segment systems based on existing documentation.
- Validation and execution of maintenance procedures for deployed hardware and software.
- Conducting system tests, including interface tests, according to established procedures.
- Documentation of activities and configurations within a ticketing system.
- Researching and implementing innovative solutions to enhance IT systems.
- Participation in the 24/7 on-call maintenance service on a weekly basis.
YOUR QUALIFICATION:
- Completed degree (Master's / Bachelor's) in technical or scientific fields such as computer science, telecommunications, or business informatics, or equivalent qualifications.
- Strong knowledge of various operating systems, particularly Linux and Windows (Server).
- Proficient command line skills in Linux.
- Understanding of network protocols and database systems.
- Experience in system/network engineering and administration is advantageous.
- Familiarity with server infrastructure maintenance (hardware, virtualization) is a plus.
- Knowledge of Galileo or similar navigation ground segments is beneficial.
- Awareness of ITIL processes and project management is advantageous.
- Commitment to adhering to strict security policies and regulations.
- Strong team orientation and effective communication skills.
- Availability for on-call service and occasional travel to other Galileo sites.
- Fluent written and spoken English is required; knowledge of German or Italian is a plus.
