Your Responsibilities
We are seeking applications for a postdoctoral researcher position that bridges the fields of developmental biology, neurobiology, mechanobiology, and biophysics within the research group led by Kristian Franze. The successful applicant will explore the influence of tissue mechanics on the formation of the nervous system. In particular, you will examine how local mechanical properties of tissues interact with biochemical signals to influence the folding of the brain. This project, funded by the ERC, is highly collaborative and involves partnerships with institutions in various countries.
The Franze laboratory focuses on understanding how mechanical cues, such as tissue stiffness and cellular forces, affect neuronal behavior during both development and pathological conditions. We employ a combination of in vitro and in vivo methodologies across diverse biological models to investigate how cells perceive their mechanical surroundings and how they integrate mechanical and chemical signals. Key techniques utilized in our research include atomic force microscopy, live imaging, and a variety of biochemical and molecular biology methods to manipulate specific cellular functions and tissue mechanics. By joining our lab, you will become part of a dynamic, international team that fosters a supportive and collaborative environment.
Your Qualifications
Essential:
The ideal candidate will possess a background in molecular or developmental biology. A strong sense of enthusiasm and curiosity is crucial. The ability to take initiative and manage your own research project, along with excellent teamwork capabilities, is essential. Strong communication skills are necessary to engage effectively with colleagues and collaborators from diverse scientific disciplines.
Desirable:
Familiarity with programming languages (such as Matlab or Python) and/or experience in microscopy techniques would be beneficial, though not mandatory.
Additional Information
This is a fixed-term research position with funding available for an initial period of 36 months, with the possibility of extension based on project progress.
