About the Role

As a Functional Safety Specialist at FRANKA EMIKA GmbH, you will be part of a dynamic team responsible for ensuring the safety of our robotic-based system products. Your primary task will be to analyze and understand the certification requirements for various products, including collaborative industrial and medical solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to safety assessments and collaborate closely with development teams, including embedded systems.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation for safety-related projects.
  • Create safety concepts, conduct risk assessments, and write requirements for all system levels.
  • Support the specification and documentation of architecture at system, hardware, and software levels.
  • Develop processes that comply with relevant functional safety norms.
  • Interact with external notified bodies, such as TÜV.
  • Support the development, verification, and testing of safety-critical functions.
  • Coordinate assessments from external certification authorities.
  • Contribute to internal change and configuration management.
  • Facilitate communication and coordination across system, software, and hardware teams.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • At least three years of experience in functional safety, preferably in industrial robotics.
  • Sound knowledge of safety standards for machines, including ISO 10218, ISO 13849, and ISO/TS, as well as the Machinery Directive.
  • Experience with functional safety standards, such as ISO 13849 and IEC, and their integration into the development process.
  • Experience in creating and reviewing safety-critical system and software architectures.
  • Experience in safety analysis of system, software, and hardware design (FMEA/FMEDA, PFH calculation, etc.).
  • Experience working with external certification authorities, such as TÜV.
  • Familiarity with quality management, configuration management, and product lifecycle.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Fluent English skills, with German language skills a plus.
Desirable Skills
  • Experience in functional safety management.
  • Experience with unit testing frameworks, such as LDRA or Unity.
  • Knowledge of common coding guidelines, such as MISRA.
  • Understanding of communication protocols, such as FSoE, CAN, or Ethercat.
