Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Aerospace Structural Design Engineer to join our Airframe team. As a key member of our Mechanical Engineering Department, you will be responsible for designing state-of-the-art composite structures, plastics, and/or metal components for our Volocity aircraft.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct technical research and evaluate design concepts to ensure optimal performance, manufacturability, and cost efficiency.
- Align interfaces with other systems, including future updates, to ensure seamless integration.
- Perform detailed design of structural concepts, considering factors such as lightweighting, manufacturability, and maintainability.
- Collaborate with relevant disciplines, including Stress, Production, Procurement, Integration, and others, to ensure a comprehensive design approach.
- Create prototyping and design data, including CAD models, drawings, and instructions.
- Evaluate prototypes and manufacturing data to ensure quality and accuracy.
- Document all design decisions and descriptions, including design assessments and root cause analyses.
- Specify component design through CAD models, drawings, and instructions.
- Interact with suppliers and support with any manufacturing issues.
- Provide relevant documentation through engineering gates, including PDR, CDR, TRR, and others.
- Ensure quality in our design, generate design assessments, and participate in root cause assessments.
- Improve existing structural components to enhance performance and efficiency.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent.
- At least 5+ years of experience in the aviation industry, with a focus on eVTOL vehicles.
- Experience in designing primary and secondary structures, including composite and metallic components, and understanding their manufacturing processes.
- Proficiency in mechanical engineering design and engineering drawing creation software, preferably using Siemens Teamcenter and NX.
- Experience with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) application.
- Knowledge of physical phenomena relevant to aircraft design, with a focus on eVTOL vehicles.
- Experience working with aerospace standards, including CS23/CS27/SC-VTOL/DO-160G.
