About the RoleWe are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Engineer to lead our engineering functions and drive innovation in the aerospace and defence sectors.
Main Responsibilities- Technical Leadership: Provide strategic direction and guidance to the engineering team, fostering a culture of creativity, innovation, and teamwork.
- Team Management: Oversee the hiring, training, and performance evaluation of engineering staff, ensuring the team is equipped to deliver high-quality results.
- Project Management: Develop and implement engineering plans, ensuring projects are completed on schedule, within scope, and within budget.
- Technical Authority: Serve as the primary technical advisor, providing direction on cutting-edge technologies, engineering best practices, and creative solutions.
- Systems Engineering: Ensure the implementation of solid systems engineering procedures, including requirements analysis, systems architecture, design integration, validation, and verification.
- Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams to guarantee seamless integration of engineering systems.
- Technical Expertise: Provide technical guidance on aerospace, cybersecurity, and military systems relevant to defence, and ensure all engineering endeavours adhere to relevant defence and governmental mandates.
- Risk Management: Identify potential risks during design and execution phases, and develop mitigation techniques to ensure project success.
- Business Alignment: Collaborate with senior management, program managers, and external stakeholders to ensure engineering efforts align with business objectives, program goals, and client requirements.
- Research and Development: Encourage R&D efforts to maintain the organisation at the forefront of technical innovation, investigating novel approaches and technologies to improve product efficacy, efficiency, and affordability.
- Financial Management: Oversee the engineering department's budget, ensuring resources are used efficiently, and labour and technical assets are distributed effectively across multiple projects.
- Education: Engineering degrees, either bachelor's or master's (mechanical, electrical, systems, aerospace, or similar discipline), with higher education preferred.
- Experience: Ten years or more of steadily increasing engineering experience, at least five of those years spent in a managerial or leading role, ideally in the aerospace or defence sectors.
- Skills: Proficiency in the design, integration, and principles of systems engineering, comprehensive knowledge of regulatory frameworks and technology used in the defence industry, expertise in using contemporary design platforms, simulation software, and engineering tools.
- Leadership: Demonstrated capacity to motivate and lead interdisciplinary teams in various engineering fields, strong ability to think strategically and make decisions.
- Communication: Strong communication abilities both in writing and speaking, with the capacity to explain complex technical ideas to stakeholders who are not technical.
- Security Clearance: Must be qualified for or possess a security clearance in accordance with the standards of the defence sector.
