About the Role
Project A Ventures is seeking a highly skilled engineer to join one of our portfolio companies as a Laser Integration and Packaging Expert. This role presents an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of cutting-edge microchips within a dynamic and innovative environment.
As a key member of the team, you will play a pivotal role in exploring, implementing, and evaluating various solutions for laser integration and fiber-to-chip coupling within integrated photonic transceivers. Your responsibilities will encompass investigating existing market solutions and customizing them to meet our specific needs, ensuring optimal performance and integration of photonic systems.
Your Impact
- Develop low-loss chip-to-fiber coupling techniques and establish light source selection strategies within the first year.
- Drive innovation by conceptualizing and developing novel architectural designs and methodologies for packaging integrated photonic systems, aligning with industry trends and standards.
- Lead the entire packaging development lifecycle, from concept to production, ensuring both scalability and efficiency.
- Collaborate effectively with external partners to design and present a comprehensive packaging solution within 18 months.
- Conduct detailed optical testing and work closely with interdisciplinary teams to refine and optimize the packaging process.
Your Profile
- Possess a PhD or at least 5 years of relevant experience in the field of photonics.
- Demonstrate proven expertise in photonic packaging and/or laser integration.
- Exhibit familiarity with OSAT trends and best practices.
- Possess a strong understanding of thermal packaging issues, including heat transfer, as well as mechanical considerations such as strain and stress.
- Have experience in designing photonic passive components.
- Be proficient in utilizing at least one of the following simulation tools: Lumerical, Comsol, Zemax, or similar software.
- Communicate effectively in English, articulating technical concepts clearly and collaborating seamlessly with multidisciplinary teams.
