We are seeking a highly skilled Radiation Protection Specialist to join our team at U.S. Army Europe and Africa. About the Job:

This position requires a knowledge of the physical sciences consistent with that of a physical science technician and stressing the fields of physics, chemistry, and electronics. The successful candidate will assist in developing methods and procedures for implementing the USAREUR Radiation Protection Program (RPP). They will conduct periodic radiation surveys using a variety of methods (i.e. air sampling, wipe tests, liquid scintillation, spectroscopy) to ensure personnel, equipment, and the environment are protected.

The Radiation Protection Specialist will also perform prescribed leak tests on controlled sources, analyze and evaluate radiological surveys, measurements, and wipe tests to satisfy Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) license requirements and US Army Radiation Authorization requirements, and thus continuance of the RPP. Additionally, they will prepare comprehensive test reports addressing the findings and/or recommended/required corrective actions if deficiencies are identified.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement methods and procedures for the USAREUR Radiation Protection Program (RPP).">
  • Conduct periodic radiation surveys using various methods to ensure personnel, equipment, and the environment are protected.">
  • Perform prescribed leak tests on controlled sources.">
  • Analyze and evaluate radiological surveys, measurements, and wipe tests to satisfy NRC and US Army Radiation Authorization requirements.">
  • Prepare comprehensive test reports addressing findings and/or recommended/required corrective actions.">
  • Ensure personnel exposures to radiation are accurately recorded and safe-working practices are followed comprehensively.">
  • Coordinate shipments of accumulated Radioactive Material (RAM) generated from USAREUR/7th Army and other theater-wide Department of Defense organizations to the facility and subsequently to designated CONUS facilities for final disposition.">

Requirements:

To be eligible for this position, applicants must possess a German driver's license class B and office automation skills. Language proficiency level C1 in English and German is required.
