The Universität Potsdam, a renowned institution for higher education, invites applications for a prestigious Professorship (W 2) position in the field of Hebrew Bible and its Exegesis.
Estimated Salary: €65,000 - €90,000 per year
About the PositionThis esteemed role requires an accomplished scholar to represent the entire field of Hebrew Bible and its exegesis through teaching and research. The successful candidate will be responsible for placing the Bible within its historical, social, religious, and cultural context, critically engaging with the text while addressing traditional Jewish reception and interpretation.
In this capacity, the professor's responsibilities will include:
- Teaching in various degree programs in Jewish theology, including an English-language MA, in close collaboration with language lecturers for Hebrew and Aramaic.
- Supervising doctoral dissertations and Habilitation theses (post-doctoral dissertation).
- Active participation in the University's self-governing administrative bodies.
The professor will cooperate with departments of Jewish and Religious Studies, Life Orientation-Ethics-Religion (L-E-R), the Selma Stern Center for Jewish Studies Berlin-Brandenburg, the Center for Interreligious Theology and Religious Studies (CITRS), and university-affiliated rabbinical schools.
RequirementsTo be considered for this appointment, applicants must demonstrate:
- Demonstrable teaching qualifications.
- A published PhD dissertation in the field of Hebrew Bible.
- A Habilitation book or equivalent record of research.
Experience acquiring third-party project funding and organizing academic conferences is desirable. Additionally, applicants shall be members of a Jewish congregation, and non-native speakers are expected to acquire sufficient skills to function in the German academic environment over a transition period of two years.
