We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Scientist to join our research team at the Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt (DLR) in Köln, Germany. As a key member of our research group, you will lead the development of innovative technologies for sustainable energy production.
About the JobThe successful candidate will be responsible for leading a project focused on developing a solar reactor for thermochemical air separation. This project aims to produce high-purity nitrogen for CO2-free ammonia synthesis, which is essential for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the fertilizer industry.
Key Responsibilities:- Lead a team of researchers to develop a detailed design and layout of the solar reactor using advanced numerical simulation tools.
- Oversee the development of a prototype of the solar reactor with heat recovery capabilities.
- Conduct experiments to optimize the reactor's performance and efficiency.
- Publish and present research findings in top-tier scientific journals and conferences.
To succeed in this role, you will need a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, or a related field, along with significant experience in experimental work and numerical simulations. Advanced knowledge of heat and mass transfer, thermodynamics, and reaction kinetics is also essential.

Compensation and BenefitsWe offer a competitive salary in line with the TVöD remuneration scheme, plus additional benefits including comprehensive health insurance, pension plans, and paid vacation time. The estimated annual salary for this position is €80,000 - €110,000, depending on qualifications and experience.
