Role Overview

EGI is seeking to enhance its team focused on Owner's Engineering to facilitate the seamless integration of renewable energy sources and Energy and Balancing Market Integration. We are in search of a Statcom Expert & Project Manager to lead the delivery of expertise across all facets of HVDC projects, particularly concerning converter stations.

Leveraging your extensive background in HV Reactive Power Compensation System technology and a solid history in project management, you will oversee the preparation, planning, and execution of EGI Statcom projects. Your role will encompass managing the quality, budget, timeline, and reporting for your project and/or sub-project. Alongside your technical proficiency, you must demonstrate strong organizational skills, assertiveness, effective communication, and a collaborative spirit.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Establishing plant-specific requirements for the Statcom system, including the development of single line diagrams and Statcom layouts for client substations;
  • Drafting technical guidelines for Statcom components and their interface connections;
  • Overseeing quality assurance during the installation of the Statcom plant and its auxiliary systems;
  • Managing the comprehensive technical implementation process from concept development, drafting tender documents, to contract awards and acceptance of deliveries;
  • Ensuring adherence to technical customer requirements and compliance with relevant guidelines and safety regulations;
  • Conducting comparative analyses of technical and economic alternatives to support significant investment decisions;
  • Collaborating actively with project managers, preparing reports, budget forecasts, and schedules, participating in construction meetings, and placing orders under framework agreements;
  • Ensuring quality control through participation in factory acceptance tests and on-site operational tests of Statcom primary equipment;
  • Reviewing and approving Statcom equipment and plant documentation;
  • Defining essential requirements for Statcom components, transformer and busbar control, protection equipment, and auxiliary power supply concepts.

Candidate Profile

  • Master’s degree in electrical engineering;
  • Several years of relevant experience with Statcom and Reactive Power Compensation systems (SVC, MSCDN, etc.) along with primary and secondary equipment for HV substations (up to kV);
  • Basic experience in electrical network calculations, insulation coordination, and Statcom design studies;
  • Proficiency in HV/MV transformer and cable design, control cables, and optical fiber cables;
  • Familiarity with modeling languages, data analytics, and simulation software commonly used in the energy sector (PowerFactory, PSSE, Matlab, etc.);
  • Strong knowledge and experience with ITWO, SAP, and MS Office;
  • Proficient in English and German; knowledge of French and/or another language is a valuable asset.
