Job DescriptionWe are seeking a highly motivated Master student in mechanical, energy, chemical, or similar engineering to join our team at the Institute for Solar Research in Stuttgart. As a research assistant, you will work on the simulation and post-processing of particle flow in the centrifugal particle solar receiver.
Responsibilities- Develop simulation models of the Centrifugal Solar Particle Receiver (CentRec) and evaluate the results
- Use Discrete Element Method (DEM)-based open-source simulation tools to investigate the effect of rough receiver walls on bulk particle behavior
- Calibrate the simulation model with available experiment results and analyze laser measurements of receiver walls
- Create a simplified CAD model of the receiver cavity in Autodesk Inventor
- Develop a post-processing routine in Paraview or similar to calculate the velocity field of particles in the receiver
- Studies in mechanical engineering, energy engineering, process engineering, or similar
- Interest in dynamic simulations of particle systems
- Data analysis skills, e.g., Matlab, Python, Paraview, or similar
- Prior knowledge of Paraview and/or Discrete Element Method tools is a plus
- Analytical thinking ability
- Interest in Solar Thermal Systems
- Good communication skills in English, especially in speaking and writing
