Campus Police Officer Job Summary

The Campus Police Officer is a vital member of the Tallahassee Community College community, responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, and staff.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Patrol campus buildings and grounds to enforce laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Provide escort services, relieve or substitute for Campus Police Dispatchers, and lock/unlock doors as needed.
  • Establish public relations, provide general information, and assist with traffic-related issues.
  • Collect, prepare, and document evidence, and testify in court as required.

Requirements:

  • High school graduation or equivalent diploma and one year of law enforcement experience.
  • Meet the requirements of Chapter 943, Florida Statute.
  • Applicants with Florida Law Enforcement certification and one year of law enforcement experience are preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of TCC policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of TCCPD policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of State of Florida Statutes and relevant local ordinances.

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to stand for long periods, walk, run, bend, stoop, and climb stairs.
  • Ability to perform duties outdoors in all types of weather.

Education and Experience:

  • High school graduation or equivalent diploma.
  • One year of law enforcement experience.
  • Two years of active and continuous military or other appropriate public contact experience may substitute for the required experience.

Certifications and Licenses:

  • Florida Law Enforcement certification.
  • First aid and CPR certification at a professional level.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent human relations skills and abilities.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to stand for long periods, walk, run, bend, stoop, and climb stairs.
  • Ability to perform duties outdoors in all types of weather.
