Human-Machine Interface Researcher – Neuromorphic Signal Processing

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled researcher to join our team at Forschungszentrum Jülich. The successful candidate will work on a Master Thesis project focused on Human-Machine Interface with Neuromorphic signal processing systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop a measurement setup including an electromyographic signal measurement system and a motion tracking system for reference, and event-based vision.
  • Collect data to build a new dataset for fast finger motion.
  • Use the dataset to train an artificial neural network for finger-position estimation.
  • Make a live demonstration of finger-position estimation with electromyographic signals.
  • Explore in-context learning techniques and novel neural networks architecture to improve adaptability from subject-to-subject and day-to-day.

Requirements:

  • Current master studies in biomedical engineering, physics, computer science, mathematics, electrical/electronic engineering or a related subject.
  • Strong programming skills (Python).
  • Familiarity with machine learning and deep learning frameworks (e.g. PyTorch).
  • Knowledge of signal processing techniques and experience with EMG data analysis or other biomedical data is a plus.
  • Experience with spiking neural networks and/or neuromorphic computing is a plus.
  • 3D modeling is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experimental enthusiasm is a must.
