Job Title: Senior Ontologist, Product Knowledge

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Ontologist to join our Product Knowledge team at Amazon Development Center Germany GmbH. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining our product knowledge graph, ensuring it is accurate, comprehensive, and easily discoverable.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement logical data models for our extensive product catalog
  • Develop and maintain ontologies that provide comprehensive domain coverage for human and machine ingestion
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate knowledge-based solutions into our product discovery experiences
  • Analyze website metrics and product discovery behaviors to inform data-driven decisions on optimizing our knowledge graph data models
  • Contribute to team goal setting and future state vision
  • Drive and coordinate cross-functional projects with merchandisers, engineers, designers, and other groups

Requirements:

  • Master's degree in Library Science, Information Systems, Linguistics, or equivalent professional experience
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience in ontology and/or taxonomy roles
  • Proven skills in data retrieval and data research techniques
  • Ability to communicate complex processes in simple language
  • Experience creating and communicating technical requirements to engineering teams
  • Ability to communicate to senior leadership (Director and VP levels)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience building ontologies in the ecommerce and semantic search spaces
  • Proficiency in SQL, SPARQL
  • Familiarity with software engineering life cycle
  • Familiarity with ontology manipulation programming libraries
