Internal Investigator 2

Job Summary:
The New York State Internal Investigator 2 will be responsible for conducting pre-adjudication investigations and assisting other investigators in tracing, interviewing, and subpoenaing witnesses, victims, and suspects in civil cases. The successful candidate will also examine court, public, and governmental records, prepare evidence for trial, and testify in adjudication proceedings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct investigations of civil complaints, including allegations of abuse and/or neglect, financial and death investigations.
- Examine court, public, and governmental records needed for investigation.
- Prepare narrative reports to effectively communicate the results of investigations to appropriate parties.
- Coordinate the appearance of witnesses at adjudication proceedings and explain procedures to them.
- Testify in adjudication proceedings concerning evidence gathered in investigations.
- Serve as a liaison and coordinate investigative activities with investigators and law enforcement officers from various agencies.
- Operate computers, photographic and recording equipment, and other related investigative equipment and resources.
- Respond to incident scenes to collect evidence and interview witnesses, victims, or suspects.
- Serve as lead investigator on complex and/or critical investigations.
- Perform field training and evaluation of probationary investigators.
Requirements:
The successful candidate will possess a minimum of twelve years of law enforcement investigative experience, including independent investigative experience interviewing and interrogating witnesses and suspects in criminal investigations. Additionally, the candidate must have current NYS basic course for police officer certification and New York State residency at the time of appointment.
Preferred Qualifications:
In addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, the preferred candidate would also possess experience in the direct provision of services which may include the care, review, investigation, assessment, treatment, or case planning for person(s) in facilities or programs covered by the Protection of People with Special Needs Act of 2012.
