About the Position

We are seeking a highly skilled Laser Engineer to join our team at TU Dortmund University. As a key member of our department, you will be responsible for the integration of high-power lasers into ultrafast experimental techniques, operation and maintenance of continuous wave and high-power femtosecond laser systems, and providing high-quality laser beams and synchronization to rf photocathodes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Integration of high-power lasers into ultrafast experimental techniques, such as the ultrafast-electron diffraction farm at TU Dortmund
  • Operation and maintenance of continuous wave and high-power femtosecond laser systems, including optical parametric amplifiers, with a strong focus on stability
  • Providing high-quality laser beams and synchronization to rf photocathodes, or among multiple femtosecond amplifier lasers and optical parametric amplifiers

Requirements
  • Degree in laser engineering or a related field with 3 years or more of practical experience based on this degree
  • Fluency in English
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in operation and construction of high-power laser systems
  • German language skills or the willingness to learn German in due time
  • Experience in nonlinear laser optics, high-power laser transport, optical parametric amplification, pulse compression, and terahertz generation
  • Familiarity with ultrafast laser instrumentation and concepts of time-resolved spectroscopy
  • Routine with laser simulation and optics-design tools
  • Knowledge about control system and CAD software
  • Organizational competence and flexibility combined with the ability to work as part of a versatile team of scientists, engineers, and students
