Research Opportunity in Catalytic Reactors

Job ID 25124WV2

Institute of Chemical Reaction Engineering

Remuneration EGR. 13 TV-L

Scope Full-time and for a maximum of 48 months

The Institute of Chemical Reaction Engineering is seeking a highly motivated PhD researcher to investigate the dynamics of solid catalysts in catalytic reactors. The successful candidate will design, construct, and assemble measurement cells for various spectroscopic methods, including infrared spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and powder X-ray diffraction.

The researcher will couple the measurement cells with a catalytic profile reactor, automate the setup, and conduct measurements on suitable test reactions. The goal is to develop a novel method of iso-potential spectroscopy, which combines spectroscopic measurement with catalytic reactor operation.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in heterogeneous catalysis, chemical kinetics, online gas analysis, IR and Raman spectroscopy, and XRD. The researcher will work independently and collaboratively as part of a team, with a focus on fundamental research and scientific publication.

Responsibilities

  • Design and construction of measurement cells for spectroscopic methods
  • Coupling of measurement cells with a catalytic profile reactor
  • Automation of the setup
  • Conducting measurements on suitable test reactions and data analysis
  • Publication of research results in peer-reviewed journals and at national and international conferences

Requirements

  • Completed scientific university studies in chemistry, physics, materials science, chemical engineering, or process engineering
  • Strong interest in scientific work and motivation to work independently and goal-oriented on fundamental research
  • Teamwork ability, cooperation, high flexibility, commitment, and resilience
  • Creativity and skills in the conception, construction, and development of experimental setups
  • Willingness to participate in university teaching

Our Offer

  • Further scientific training outside of duties, with results that can be used for a dissertation
  • Intensive introduction and onboarding
  • Flexible and family-friendly working conditions
  • 30 days vacation per year
  • Company pension scheme and capital-forming benefits
  • Fitness club on campus and special conditions in selected sports and fitness gyms
